Miscellaneous and other leave

Academic and general staff

Staff can take miscellaneous and other leave for a number of reasons such as those listed below:

  • when experiencing family or domestic violence (other ways the University can provide support);to attend court for jury service (find out more about jury service);
  • if they are a member of the Australian Defence Force Reserve, to attend routine training or defence service activities up to 10 days per calendar year;
  • if they are a member of a voluntary organisation, to assist in emergencies where the organisation is called upon to assist by the government or by a competent authority under the State Disaster Plan;
  • where the employee responds to a call for volunteers to meet a declared bushfire or other emergency; and
  • if an employee is a candidate for election to Federal or State parliament they are entitled to leave without pay to contest an election.

TAFE teaching staff

Subject to operational requirements the University may grant leave with or without pay on terms and conditions agreed upon by the University and the Employee. TAFE teachers can take miscellaneous and other leave for a number of reasons such as those listed below:

  • if they are a member of a voluntary organisation, to assist in emergencies where the organisation is called upon;
  • to appear and serve as a juror in any court;
  • when experiencing family or domestic violence;
  • to complete Defence Reserve Service or to attend Defence Reserve Service training;
  • for cultural and ceremonial purposes;
  • for study or industry release; and
  • Sabbatical leave.

How to apply for miscellaneous and other leave

  • Fully understand your miscellaneous and other leave entitlements and options.
  • Discuss your situation and plans confidentially with your supervisor and/or People and Culture (raise a case in Workday).
  • Login to Workday to submit your request.
