Gender equality
Diversity, inclusion and gender equality
Federation University Australia recognises that all staff should live in a safe and equal society, and our organisation strives to promote diverse, equitable, and inclusive practices.
On Monday, 12 September 2022 we officially launched our Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) 2021–2025 (pdf, 3.2mb).
The process of developing our GEAP has highlighted the progress we have made as an institution but also identified the steps we still need to take to create equal opportunities for people of all genders and intersecting identities.
Gender equality at Federation University
The Gender Equality Act 2020 (Victoria) is designed to support identification and elimination of systemic causes of gender inequality and recognises that inequality may be compounded by other forms of disadvantage or discrimination.
Under the Gender Equality Act 2020 (Vic) Federation University is required to:
- develop and implement a Gender Equality Action Plan, which includes results of a workplace gender audit and strategies for achieving workplace gender equality
- publicly report on progress in relation to workplace gender equality
- promote gender equality in policies, programs and services that impact the public
- complete gender impact assessments for policies, programs and services that can impact people of different genders in different ways.
More information about the Act is available on the website for the Commission for Gender Equality in the Public Sector.
Our Gender Equality Action Plan (GEAP) 2021–2025 (pdf, 3.2mb) was developed to meet these important goals by seeking feedback from staff about their experiences via a staff survey (conducted between 17 August and 31 August 2021) and input through focus groups and stakeholder consultation meetings.
