Alumni mentor

Join the program

We are always keen to find mentors for our program. Our volunteer mentors bring their unique professional skills and experiences from across a vast range of industries and their contribution is highly valued. At this time our mentors must be alumni of Federation University, Federation TAFE, University of Ballarat, or other such historic institutions.

We're looking for people to volunteer for our program who:

  • Have the time and interest to commit to develop a meaningful mentoring relationship across the six month program.
  • Are willing and able to share their industry knowledge and professional skills.
  • Possess good listening and communication skills.
  • Enjoy helping others.

The mentoring relationship can occur in person or virtually. As such, mentors can be located in any country as long as they have the time and technology capabilities to meet with students virtually.

This is an unpaid, volunteer opportunity.

If this sounds like you, complete the application form and a member of our staff will be in touch.

If you'd like to know more before you apply, read on.

Mentor resources

Program overview (PDF, 237kb)
A thorough guide to everything you'll need to know, containing an explanation of the mentor and mentee roles, a framework you can use for your meetings, and advice on what to do if you need more support.

Mentor lifecycle map (PDF, 76kb)
An visual explainer of the journey for mentors in our program.

Mentoring agreement form
An online form you must negotiate and complete with your mentee at your first meeting. The mentoring agreement helps both parties set clear expectations and goals, and define their roles.

Meeting framework, (PDF, 224kb)
This framework provides meeting exercises and discussion points you might choose to work through with your student mentee. There's no obligation to follow the framework, you might prefer to pick and choose elements that seem most relevant or follow your own plan. Except, of course, for the mentoring agreement which you must complete together with your mentee at your first meeting.

If at any point during your time in our program you need support or advice, reach out to our program staff at:
