Organise your placement with InPlace
Learn how to use the InPlace platform to prepare for and manage your placements.
Getting started
If you’re studying education, visual or performing arts, health, social work, community services, exercise and sport science or psychology, you’ll have compulsory placements embedded in your course structure.
When you enrol in your first placement unit, an InPlace account will be created for you (look out for the notification via your student email). Use your student ID and usual Federation password to log in.
On your dashboard you’ll find a ‘To Do’ list and a ‘Notifications’ area. You can click through these to read more or take action. You’ll also see any confirmed or available placements.
Using InPlace
Our Co-operative Placement team organise placements for students studying education, visual or performing arts, health or psychology. As soon as an opportunity is booked in, you'll be able to see the details under the ‘Confirmed’ tab in InPlace.
If you’re studying social work, community services, criminal justice or exercise and sport science, you'll need to apply for your own placements – and you'll find opportunities advertised in InPlace.
You’ll need to complete some forms and upload various mandatory documents before your placement can be confirmed. Select ‘My Details’ from the top menu to see the list. Follow the instructions and don’t forget to select ‘Save’ when you’re finished.
Someone from the placement team will then check each document and mark it as either ‘verified’ or ‘rejected’. If any of your documents are rejected, you’ll get a note on your ‘To Do’ list asking you to upload a new file.
You'll receive an email notification when your placement is confirmed. Log into InPlace to view the details.
You might be asked to submit a timesheet or report after your placement is complete. If so, these items will appear at the bottom of the ‘My Details’ page. Follow the instructions and don’t forget to save at the end.
Frequently asked questions
You can’t. You’ll have to combine your files into a single PDF or use Microsoft Lens to scan and combine documents with your phone.
You can only upload files smaller than 10MB. To reduce the size, use Microsoft Lens to scan and save your files (instead of taking a photo) or compress your PDF.
Most students aren't permitted to find their own placements. (If your course allows self-sourcing, you'll receive a notification.) But if you'd really like to arrange your own placement, contact the Co-operative Placements team first to discuss your options.
If you need to change your placement dates due to unforeseen circumstances, you should apply for special consideration. To do this, fill out the 'Special Consideration – General' form. You'll need to explain the circumstances and proposed new dates, and attach any supporting evidence (e.g. medical certificates). Make sure you use the placement unit code on the form. If you need help, follow our instuctional video.
