Standards for enrolment

Rights of student

Prospective students with disabilities have the right to enrol at FedUni on the same basis as prospective students without disabilities, including the right to reasonable adjustments that are necessary to ensure that they are able to enrol on the same basis as prospective students without disabilities.

Obligations of our University

  • Must take reasonable steps to ensure that a prospective student with a disability is able to seek admission on the same basis as other applicants, and without experiencing discrimination
  • Must ensure that applicants with disabilities are treated on the same basis as other applicants in decisions about admissions
  • Must consult with prospective students with disabilities about, and where necessary make, reasonable adjustments to facilitate application for admission

Measures for compliance

  • Information about enrolment processes addresses the needs of students with disabilities, is accessible and is available in a range of formats
  • Enrolment procedures can be completed without undue difficulty
  • Information about entry requirements, subject choices, progression requirements and educational settings is accessible, and allow for prospective students with disabilities to make informed choices

Standards for participation

Rights of student

Students with disabilities have the right to participate in the units and courses, and to use services and facilities, provided by FedUni, on the same basis as other students, including the right to reasonable adjustments, where necessary, to ensure they are able to participate in education and training, on the same basis as students without disabilities.

Obligations of our University

  • Must take reasonable steps to ensure that students are able to participate in units and courses of FedUni, and use its facilities and services, on the same basis as students without disabilities, and without experiencing discrimination
  • Must consult with students with disabilities about, and where necessary make, reasonable adjustments to facilitate participation in units and courses and use of facilities and services
  • Must allow for the changing needs of students with disabilities over time

Measures for compliance

  • Unit activities are sufficiently flexible for students with disabilities to be able to participate
  • Unit requirements are reviewed to include activities in which a student with a disability can participate
  • Appropriate courses necessary to enable participation are implemented
  • Additional support is provided where necessary
  • Students are offered reasonable substitute activities where necessary
  • All activities are designed to include students with disabilities

Standards for curriculum development, accreditation and delivery

Rights of student

Students with disabilities have the right to participate in units and courses that are designed to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding, including relevant supplementary units, on the same basis as students without disabilities

Obligations of our University

  • Must take reasonable steps to ensure that units are designed so that any student with a disability is able to participate in the learning experiences on the same basis as students without disabilities, and without experiencing discrimination
  • Must consult with students with disabilities about, and where necessary make, reasonable adjustments to facilitate participation in learning experiences on the same basis as other students
  • Must allow for the changing needs of students with disabilities over time

Measures for compliance

  • Curriculum, teaching materials, and assessment and certification requirements for units are appropriate for and accessible to the student with a disability
  • Delivery modes and learning activities reflect intended educational outcomes and the learning capacities and needs of the student with a disability
  • Study materials are available in a format appropriate for the student with a disability
  • Teaching and delivery strategies reflect the learning needs of the student with a disability
  • Non-classroom activities are designed to include the student with a disability
  • Assessment procedures and methodologies are adapted to enable the student with a disability to demonstrate the knowledge, skills or competencies being assessed

Standards for student support services

Rights of student

Students with disabilities have the right to access student support services, on the same basis as students without disabilities. Students with disabilities have the right to specialist services needed for them to participate in the unit for which they are enrolled

Obligations of our University

  • Must take reasonable steps to ensure students with disabilities are able to use general support services on the same basis as other students and without experiencing discrimination
  • Must take reasonable steps to ensure that students with disabilities have access to and are provided with necessary specialist support services
  • Must consult with students with disabilities about, and where necessary make, reasonable adjustments to facilitate access to specialist support services

Measures for compliance

  • Staff at FedUni are aware of the specialised services available and have information to be able to assist students to access services they need
  • Necessary specialised equipment is provided to support the student to participate
  • Appropriately trained support staff are made available to students with disabilities
