Anyone can learn to lead

We know that taking on a student leadership role can seem daunting. Especially if you’ve never done it before. But the truth is – anyone can learn to be a leader.

The Emerging Leaders Program is designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to be a leader at Federation and beyond. We’ll also reward you with points for the items you complete, and recognise each 100 point milestone.

There are three parts to the program

  • Growth mindset
  • Communication skills
  • Time management
  • Thriving in teams
  • Hero's journey (tell your story)
  • Presentation skills
  • Presenting at conferences
  • Ace the interview
  • Mastering LinkedIn
  • Resume and cover letter
  • Club governance, legal and finance
  • Running an event
  • Difficult conversations
  • Fed 101: Welcome to Federation University

Value: 

  • 10 points for each module

More training and development opportunities will be added throughout the year.

Aim to complete 40 points of training and development each year.

Apply your skills and knowledge by taking on one or more leadership roles at Federation. Volunteer and paid positions will earn points toward the program is they include student-facing interaction, leadership skill development, positive student impact, responsibility and initiative, or visibility and representation.

We’ll also invite you to attend regular institute networking events.

Value:

  • 30 points for each volunteer position (per semester)
  • 20 points for each paid position (per semester)
  • 10 points for attending an institute networking event

More events will be added throughout the year.

Aim to complete 50 points of service each year.

Write about your leadership experiences and what you’ve learnt.

Value:

  • 10 points for each submission

Aim to complete 10 points of reflection each year.

Recognition and reward

Every time you earn 40 points for training, 50 points for service and 10 points for reflection (100 points total), you’ll complete one level of the program and receive a certificate. This will be added to your eQuals and presented to you in person at the annual FedAwards ceremony.
 
We expect most Emerging Leadership Program participants to complete one level per year of study, but there are no deadlines, so you can earn points at your own pace.
