Dennis ‘Spiv’ Spielvogel  graduated from the State College of Victoria, Ballarat with a Diploma of Teaching in 1973 and taught throughout Victoria and in Canada.

Spiv exemplified community spirit and volunteered at various organisations for almost fifty years. He was a member of the Sovereign Hill Gold Museum Society; the Central Highlands Historical Society; the Heritage Advisory Committee for the Moorabool Shire; and a founding member of the Friends of Moorabool Reservoir. In 2007 Dennis was awarded Moorabool Shire Council’s Citizen of the Year.

He offered his services to the Bungaree Football Club and had a long association with the Bungaree Country Fire Authority. Spiv was an active member of the Bungaree and District Historical Society, serving as President for 21 years. In 2013 he was awarded the Catherine King Award for Service for his service to Bungaree Primary School with his contributions to the school also recognised by the naming of the new school cubbyhouse, “Spiv’s Cottage”.

Spiv worked tirelessly to keep the Ballarat Teachers College 1971 intake connected by organising regular reunions throughout the years. He died in early 2020 and has left a lasting impact on the lives of his students, colleagues and classmates.
