Scholarships
Federation University offers a range of Higher Degree by Research scholarship options to current and prospective Masters by research or PhD candidates.
You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

HDR (Industry): get real world experience and industry connections to help grow your career
Federation University has partnered with industries across Victoria to deliver Higher Degree by Research programs that will make a difference to you and to our local communities. These are our HDR (Industry) projects, supporting groups of highly qualified applicants to work with key industry partners. Obtain a highly respected academic qualification while gaining real world experience via internships; solve problems faced by industry partners and develop research skills that will help you build a career. We work with businesses, labs, agricultural and government organisations to co-design projects that will get you working in your area of choice sooner.
You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of between $30,000 to $40,000 per annum (depending on project) and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).
Applications are currently open for:
Ararat and Gippsland: domestic students - Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens.
Ballarat: domestic, Australian permanent residents and international students
Applications closing Friday 10th February 2023.
HDR (Industry) programs currently available are:
- Ballarat - PhD (Industry) – A collaboration between IBM, Victorian Government and Federation University, supported by funding from Destination Australia Program
- Gippsland - Codesigned Research projects - A collaboration between Morwell Innovation Centre, local industries and Federation University, supported by funding from Destination Australia Program.
Industry-connected HDR projects
Federation University has partnered with an extended range of industry groups to create additional 'one off' scholarships to support suitably qualified applicants working on individual industry-linked projects.
You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of at least $28,854 per annum and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).
