Federation University offers a range of Higher Degree by Research scholarship options to current and prospective Masters by research or PhD candidates.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

CSIRO Industry PhD Scholarship Program

The CSIRO Industry PhD Program (iPhD) is a four-year research training program, focusing on applied research that benefits industry by solving real-world challenges. It aims to produce the next generation of innovation leaders with the skills to work at the interface of research and industry in Australia.

There are currently two scholarships available that are open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and New Zealand citizens who will will be supported with a tax-free scholarship worth $46,000 per annum (indexed annually) with an extra $13,000 per annum allocated for project expenses, all over a 4 year period.

The first project is Bringing intelligence to battery management systems through a cloud platform which is in conjunction with Federation University, CSIRO and  Techplus Control System Pty Ltd.

The second project is Developing Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) Electric-powertrain for tractors to suit Australian Farm conditions in conjunction with Federation University, CSIRO and Foton Mobility Distribution Pty Ltd.

The third project is Waste heat recovery for onsite production of hydrogen utilising microgeneration and machine learning, in conjunction with Meredith Dairy Pty Ltd.

Decolonisation PhD Scholarship

An exciting opportunity is offered here for an Indigenous PhD candidate in the fields of history, archives, decolonising studies, Indigenous methodologies and/or Indigenous health or epidemiology. This is a ground-breaking PhD topic to decolonise historical research on Tasmanian Aboriginal populations and health profiles at the time of colonial invasion. A draft book has been written; however, it is missing an Indigenous voice, perspective, methodology and theory that pays tribute to Tasmanian Aboriginal peoples..

Optimal Ageing PhD Scholarships

Federation University is pleased to offer 4 PhD scholarships in the areas of (1) digital literacy for workers in ageing health workforces and workforces supporting older people and their older adult clients; and (2) improving wellness in ageing health workforces and workforces supporting older people’ and their older adult clients.

Industry-connected HDR projects

Federation University has partnered with an extended range of industry groups to create additional 'one off' scholarships to support suitably qualified applicants working on individual industry-linked projects.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of at least $32,192 per annum and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).
