Graduating from the School of Mines and Industries Ballarat (SMB) with a Diploma of Mechanical Engineering in 1969, Gregory McRae is one of Australia’s most outstanding STEM scientists of the past 40 years, and a leading scientist in the USA across academia, corporate enterprise, and defence sectors.

Greg has worked at several prestigious institutes throughout his career including the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and 25 years at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he was made an Emeritus Professor.

His research has stretched beyond chemical engineering and into IT problems; energy issues in generation, storage, transport; and CO2 generation and he is the author of numerous articles, books and presentations on these topics.

Greg has been a member of the US Department of Energy Scientific Advisory Board for Advanced Scientific Computing; the US Environmental Protection Agency; and on numerous advisory panels for the US National Research Council and National Science Foundation.

He has received numerous awards including the National Computer Graphics Prize; the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, (SIAM) Forefronts of Computational Science Award; and the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award. Greg has also founded four companies that provide services to microelectronic, chemical and operations support industries.
