Early days Gippsland staff reunion
Twenty-five former staff from the early days of the Gippsland campus gathered for a reunion on Monday 30 September, enjoying lunch together at the Churchill Hotel, and catching up with friends and past colleagues. This was the first such reunion since November 2017.
Some participants had travelled quite some distance for the event and there was a distinct bias towards School of Applied Science backgrounds, but all of the areas of Engineering, Business, Social Sciences, Education, Campus Administration and Educational Services were represented too.
In welcoming everyone, Phil Rayment noted two things worth celebrating at this time: first, Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education (GIAE) had its first student intake under its then new name 50 years ago, in 1969, and that famous icon of the Churchill campus, the Bini Shell, was spectacularly erected 40 years ago, in December 1979.
Reunion organisers plan at least one gathering in 2020.
