More than 120 commencing students have enrolled in their first year of teacher education in 2017 at the Gippsland Campus.

Programs on offer include the Bachelor of Education (Birth to Year 6), the Bachelor of Education (Prep to Year 6), the Bachelor of Education Studies, the Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education, and the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences/Bachelor of Education, all of which have part time or full time options.

Associate Professor Nicola Johnson, Deputy Head, School of Education, is delighted with the uptake of these popular programs, the continuing growth in teacher education at Gippsland and the ongoing dedication and enthusiasm of her staff and the pre-service teachers.

“Of note, we now offer the Early Childhood/Primary program on-campus in the form of weekly, face-to-face classes, as well as on-line,” Associate Professor Johnson said.

“This Bachelor of Education (Birth - Year 6) is a popular program as it offers a dual qualification in both early childhood and primary education.”

“At the end of 2017, the first intake of Gippsland Bachelor of Education students will complete their studies at the end of the year. We are confident in their skills, knowledge and classroom readiness which will be evident as they start their first year of teaching in 2018.

“Furthermore, we have consolidated our Masters of Teaching programs (primary or secondary) to specialise in online/distance learning due to the teaching expertise of our staff.”

Associate Professor Johnson is also pleased to announce an official mid-year intake is on offer this year into the Bachelor of Education (Primary, Prep - Year 6) and into the Bachelor of Education Studies at the Gippsland Campus.

Given the increase in ATAR requirements expected for 2018, she encourages potential teachers to consider this opportunity.

Dr Johnson also oversees education at the new Berwick Campus, which is also boasting a successful intake of 120 education students studying both Early Childhood and/or Primary Education.
