Celebrating graduation in Gippsland and Berwick

Posted: Tuesday 28 March 2023

More than 500 Federation University Australia students celebrated their graduation at ceremonies in Gippsland and Berwick last week.

The students are among more than 1400 across the University’s campuses to mark the education milestone in front of family, friends and their classmates in March.

Among them is Berwick Campus Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice student Sarah Wookey who is hoping to become a case manager for people exiting the prison system.

“I like helping people a lot and interacting with people, so I’m hoping to find a job where I can do all of that, something I’m really passionate about,” Sarah said.

“I really enjoyed learning the ins and outs of, not only the actual subjects, but the whole university process and how supportive Fed Uni was to help you make your way through.”

Master of Business Administration student, Alisha Gilliland will deliver the graduate speech at the Gippsland ceremony, encouraging her classmates to “make space for others who may not have a seat at the table”.

Her MBA research project looking at diversity on not-for-profit boards supports Alisha's contribution to the not-for-profit sector in Gippsland, as both an employee and as a Board Director.

“I didn’t anticipate the level of generosity of spirit and sharing of time and knowledge among the MBA cohort,” she said of the MBA program.

“That continues now. We have a group of people across Gippsland who will be our network and I have really benefited from that personally and professionally.”

Graduation ceremonies were held at the Gippsland Performing Arts Centre, Traralgon on 21 March and Bunjil Place, Narre Warren on 22 March.

“We look forward to seeing all that our students will achieve in their communities as we know they are graduating with the skills and knowledge employers need.”

“Graduations are a special time for our students to celebrate their hard work with friends, family and their peers. Congratulations to all our graduates.”
