Federation TAFE Welding and Metal Fabrication Teacher, Anthony (Tony) Monagle has been named the ‘2022 Victorian Training and Education Individual Teacher’ at Weld Australia’s 2022 Welding Excellence Awards.

The Awards, held in Melbourne on Thursday 1 December, are the most prestigious event on the welding industry calendar and showcase and celebrate the world-class work being undertaken by local welders, fabricators and industry educators across the country.

The award recognises Tony’s strong relationships with both his students and industry, his dedication to his profession, pursuit of further learning, delivery of quality and innovative training, and high level of skill, knowledge and craftsmanship

A teacher at Federation TAFE since 2013, Tony has designed and introduced numerous innovative projects that enhance the learning experience for apprentices and focus on the real-world skills needed by the welding and metal fabrication industry.

This includes the coordination of an annual five-day ‘Apprentice Boot Camp’ for Ararat metal fabrication company, AF Gason Pty Ltd, which the company uses for apprentice recruitment resulting in the selection and training of 16 apprentices.

Tony also champions the use of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) high-precision machines for custom metal fabrication, as well as developing and updating learning resources to support Federation TAFE programs which have subsequently been recommended for use at other TAFE providers.
