Helping year 12 students look beyond the pandemic at Federation University's Open Day

Posted: Wednesday 11 August 2021

Year 12 students will be able to secure a place at Federation University Australia before they sit their exams or receive an ATAR score as part of a new early offers program the university is launching as part of its virtual Open Day event this weekend.

The early offers program is being launched to help take the pressure off secondary school students who are already struggling with finishing their studies and making decisions about their future during a global pandemic.

As the number one university in Victoria for undergraduate student support and number one university in Australia for students who are the first in their family to study at university, according to Good Universities Guide 2022 results released last week, Federation is launching a range of support measures to encourage both Year 12 and mature age students to study next year.

This includes more than $5 million in scholarships to help prospective students realise their dreams.

The range of scholarships include support for high performing students and those relocating to regional Victoria, as well as women in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) and students studying in growth industries. Those doing it tough will also be supported to continue their studies through the university’s FedSuccess grant.

Prospective students can find out more at the virtual Open Day on Sunday 15 August, between 10am to 4pm.

The Open Day will give prospective university and TAFE students the chance to attend live information sessions about the study area they are interested in and learn about more than 300 courses Federation provides across its campuses in Ballarat, Berwick, Brisbane, Gippsland and the Wimmera.

Visitors can chat with experts in virtual drop-in booths, and current students and graduates will be on hand throughout the day to answer questions.

They will also have the chance to hear from local employers who support students to make Federation number one in Victoria for undergraduate full-time employment, as rated in the Good Universities Guide 2022.

On-campus open day events will be held as coronavirus restrictions ease.

Quotes attributable to Federation University Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley

“We know that a lot of Year 12 students are finding it really tough this year. They’ve done their entire two years of VCE in a global pandemic.”

“We want them, and anyone thinking about a career change or further study, to know that we understand how difficult it has been and we are here to support them to achieve their dreams.”

“Our virtual Open Day is an opportunity to showcase the breadth of programs on offer at Federation, from teaching, nursing and allied health programs, to business and innovation.”

“Whether you are a year 12 student or returning to study after time in the workforce, our virtual Open Day is a great way to explore the higher education and TAFE opportunities available.”
