First-year FedUni students to get hot under the collar

Posted: Monday 6 March 2017

Federation University Australia will shine the spotlight on new students at an event aimed to unleash their full potential to succeed at academic study and in life.

Renowned motivational speaker Emeli Paulo will facilitate FedGen Next, where she will put new students on the spot asking them to “Get real and Get it done.”

With raw honesty, FedGen Next promises to put first year students through their paces as Emeli asks the powerful questions on how to harness the power of emotions to help them get the most out of academic life.

Professor Marcia Devlin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Quality), likens the first few weeks of university study to culture shock and staying motivated can be difficult.

“An increasing number of first year university students live with competing priorities. Many are parents and many have other caring responsibilities. They must balance these responsibilities, which often include the need for paid employment while studying,” Professor Devlin said.

“Some are first in their family to study and that brings a lot of pressure to understand what is expected of them as students. A lot is going in the first four weeks of study. They are just finding their feet.

“The FedGen Next event is a wonderful opportunity to all first-year students where they can feel supported and empowered to study and be the success they want to be.

“They can take comfort in knowing that FedUni is consistently ranked number one in Victoria for teaching quality and student support and full-time employment using the Federal Government Quality Indictors for Learning and Teaching.”

Emeli says FedGen Next is a chance for new students to develop the drive to stay on-track in what can be a challenging time by listening to their inner voice and set goals to create a life they want during and after study.

“With over 1.4 million university students in Australia and one you, how will you make a difference and stand out from the crowd?” Emeli said.

“Get motivated. Get inspired and smash your goals.”

FedGen Next is an exclusive event and free for first year FedUni students only. It will run at the following campuses:
