Federation University Australia will create learning spaces for Indigenous students and employ more Indigenous staff as part of the University’s new Reconciliation Action Plan 2019-2022 (RAP).
The three year plan will guide the University in its commitment to reconciliation, both internally and within the communities within which it operates.
Initiatives include a new target of two per cent Indigenous employment by 2021 and ensuring students receive Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in their studies, also by 2021.
As a RAP partner, Federation University is one of more than 1,000 organisations in Australia working to build and implement plans of action based on the key pillars of the RAP program: relationships, respect and opportunities.
The RAP launch at the Wimmera campus follows the renaming of the campus library last month, which is now known as ‘Wimmera Library Werrunangity larr Wimmerata: A quiet place in the Wimmera’.
The renaming of the library with an Indigenous name is an important initiative of the RAP as it emphasises Federation’s links to the Indigenous peoples of the Wimmera and creates a welcoming place for the community.
