New scholarships will help increase access to tertiary education in Gippsland and embed important on-the-job learning in degrees to give Federation University Australia students a head start on a successful career.

EnergyAustralia will provide scholarships worth $6000 each to four Gippsland students in 2023, along with 400-450 hours of paid industry placement.

The scholarships will be available to two electrical engineering students, one civil engineering student and one environmental sciences student, helping support them to focus on their studies and prepare to enter the workforce.

This initiative is an exciting step in Federation University’s goal of becoming Australia’s first co-operative university, where programs are co-designed, co-developed and co-delivered in partnership with industry and extended workplace learning is embedded in all programs.

It builds on a series of partnerships between the University and the energy industry to build a skilled local workforce in Gippsland as the region transitions to new energy technologies.

This year, Australian Carbon Innovation offered six scholarships of $7000 to support Gippsland engineering students in the preferred electrical and mechanical disciplines and is renewing its support for 2023 with eight scholarships available.

Federation University and Star of The South also partnered earlier this year, giving a Gippsland-based student the opportunity to work in the offshore wind sector while completing their degree.
