FedUni welcomes new international students

Posted: Tuesday 25 July 2017

Up to 200 international students from 18 countries will arrive at Federation University Australia this week.

The mid-year intake will see the students enrolling in many programs including business, informational technology, engineering and nursing.

“Our new international students will be studying undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, as well as research degrees at the University’s Ballarat and Gippsland campuses,” Dr Jessie Harman, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Partnerships), said.

“The University is also pleased to welcome students who are participating in short-term student exchange and study abroad programs.

“Students will commence their experience with a week of orientation activities, designed to help them succeed with both learning and living in Australia.”

During Orientation Week students will meet FedUni staff, tour the University campuses and visit popular local attractions.

Other activities will include a food truck lunch, multicultural dinner and a market stall.

Students also will spend time getting to know other international and domestic students and learn all about the support available to them on campus.

“Orientation Week will include tours of the University, tours of the local areas and visits to popular tourist sites around the region,” Jerry van Delft, Director of Student Connect, said.

“Orientation Week is a really important experience for our new international students.  It’s a great way for students to meet other students find their way around the campus and get to know the staff who will support them during their studies.”

Luke Icely, Co-ordinator of Multicultural Services, said: “Studying in another country is exciting but it can also be very daunting. The University’s multi-cultural services team has a whole range of supports available to ensure our new international students can be successful.”
