Federation University Australia will host a series of one-day educational workshops to inspire Year Seven and Eight female Indigenous students enabled by a $138,000 grant from the Federal Government.

The INspire Me workshops are designed to encourage young Indigenous students in regional Victoria to take up STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects as a key part of their secondary education.

“INspire Me will provide a platform for female Indigenous business and community leaders to share their stories,” Dr Julianne Krusche, Associate Director of College Quality, Commercial and Engagement, said.

“They will be able to work with the girls to continue their studies and realise their potential in the field of STEM or entrepreneurship.”

To support these events we have been successful in attracting nationally acclaimed female Indigenous community leaders, STEM professionals and business entrepreneurs to inspire these students. There will also be local tertiary students, Koori Education Support Officers (KESO’s) and mentors from the Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) Program attending on the days.   

“These leaders will, not just share their stories and journeys, they will also work with the young women in small groups to answer questions and offer any advice for the future,” Dr Krusche said.

“The KESO’s and AIME mentors have been invited to ensure that the support for the young women will continue on past the day of the event to keep them INspired into the future.”

INspire Me, an invitation only event for local students, will be held at three FedUni Campuses – Horsham, Mt Helen and Churchill during August.
