Federation University offers a range of Higher Degree by Research scholarship options to current and prospective Masters by research or PhD candidates.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships

RTP Scholarships are stipends available to current and prospective domestic and permanent resident Higher Degree by Research candidates. The applications for RTP stipends will re-open 1 September 2022, closing 31 October 2022.

HDR (Industry): get real world experience and industry connections to help grow your career

Federation University has partnered with industries across Victoria to deliver Higher Degree by Research programs that will make a difference to you and to our local communities. These are our HDR (Industry) projects, supporting groups of highly qualified applicants to work with key industry partners. Obtain a highly respected academic qualification while gaining real world experience via internships; solve problems faced by industry partners and develop research skills that will help you build a career. We work with businesses, labs, agricultural and government organisations to co-design projects that will get you working in your area of choice sooner.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of between $30,000 to $40,000 per annum (depending on project) and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

Applications are currently open for:

Ararat and Gippsland: domestic students - Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, and New Zealand citizens.
Ballarat: domestic, Australian permanent residents and international students

Industry-connected HDR projects

Federation University has partnered with an extended range of industry groups to create additional 'one off' scholarships to support suitably qualified applicants working on individual industry-linked projects.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of at least $28,854 per annum and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

Centre for New Energy Transitions Scholarships

Established in 2022, the Centre for New Energy Transition Research (CfNETR) is partnering with local industries to offer four PhD scholarships in renewable energy and energy management.

CfNETR responds to the pressing need for research, training and skills development in new energy. This need is particularly urgent in regional Australia, where legacy modes of power generation are being joined by multimodal and widely distributed forms of new energy generation, transmission and storage. CfNETR aims to develop innovative, reliable and quality solutions to provide both utilities and policymakers with technology options to deliver economic and sustainable energy to the community.

You’ll be supported with a tax-free scholarship of at least $28,854 per annum and a tuition fee scholarship to cover the cost of fees. You’ll also be provided with a laptop and financial support for your project (subject to conditions).

CSIRO Industry PhD Program Scholarship - Coming soon!

Federation University is pleased to partner with CSIRO and Sonac Australia Pty Ltd to offer a PhD scholarship in Mechanical Engineering. This is a four-year research training program that focuses on applied research and working with the industry sector. It aims to produce the next generation of innovation leaders with the skills to work at the interface of research and industry in Australia.

You'll be supported with a tax-free scholarship totalling approximately $45,000 per annum and a project expense and development package of up to $13,000 per annum.
