Summary:

Ryan’s academic performance has always been outstanding since he started his first year with us in 2016.   He won the trust of his classmates and emerged as a leader who managed to keep the focus of his mates on academic performance, particularly in group assignments.  His honours project and thesis work reflected a high level of creativity and thinking in ways beyond the abilities of other students at this level of their career.  He studied the leakage in fluid power machines (gas expanders) which result from the method employed to manufacture these machines.  He designed a mathematical model and computer code to describe the part imperfection which results from various manufacturing processes and used this model to predict the amount of fluid (which is an expensive synthetic gas) that leaks under different operating conditions.  He went on to quantify the impact of this leakage on the cost of running the machine and on its energy efficiency. His thesis was awarded a HD by examiners
