Short biography

Joarder Kamruzzaman received the BSc and MSc degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka, and the PhD degree in Information Systems Engineering from Muroran Institute of Technology, Hokkaido, Japan in 1993. He has 29 years of tertiary level teaching experience in Australia and Bangladesh. Currently, he is a Professor in the Institute of Innovation, Science and Sustainability, Federation University Australia. Previously, he served Monash University Australia (2004-13) as an Associate Professor and was a full Professor at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology during 1999-2004. He has taught diverse courses including data communication & networking, wireless and mobile communications, programming, computer security, machine learning, professional development and numerical analysis. His research interests include wireless communications, sensor networks, Internet of Things, machine learning and cybersecurity. He is the founding leader of the sensor networks research group in Monash University in 2007 which now continues in Federation University. He is currently the Direction of a centre (interim) called the Centre for Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences hosted by Federation University Australia. During 2008-2014, he served as the Director of the Centre for Multimedia Computing, Communications and Artificial Intelligence Research hosted first by Monash University and later by Federation University, and as the co-Director of Research, Monash University, Gippsland campus (2009-10).

Kamruzzaman has published 279 peer-reviewed publications which include 85 journal papers, 171 fully peer-viewed conferences, 11 book chapters and two edited reference books (see google scholar link for full list). Most of his publications are in the top-ranked journals (40 ranked JCR-Q1) and conferences in his field, including in the highest ranked journal in the whole computer science and electrical engineering domain. He is the recipient of Best Paper award in four international conferences: ICICS’15, Singapore; APCC’14, Thailand; IEEE WCNC’10, Sydney, Australia and in the IEEE-ICNNSP’03, Nanjing, China. He was also awarded Best Researcher award in the Faculty of Science & Technology (2016) and Graduate Research School Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Supervision (2019) in Federation University, and nominated for ‘Teaching Excellence’ award and ‘Postgraduate Supervisor of the Year’ award in Monash University in 2008. His publications are cited over 3400 times and have h-index 26, g-index 47 and i-10 index 73. He has received over A$2.5m competitive research funding, including highly prestigious ARC (Australian Research Council) grant and large CRC (Collaborative Research Centre) grant, and successfully supervised 24 PhDs and 9 Masters to completion. He was the founding Program co-Chair of the first International Symposium on Dependability in Sensor, Cloud, and Big Data Systems and Applications (DependSys), China in 2015. He has served 32 conferences in leadership capacities including Program co-Chair, Publicity Chair, Track Chair and Session Chairs, and since 2012 as an Editor of the Elsevier Journal of Network and Computer Applications (JCR-Q1 ranked), and had served as the lead guest editor of Elsevier Journal Future Generation Computer Systems (Q1 ranked).
