Summary:

Scott completed his degree in civil engineering and undertook his honours project in the area of water engineering. Scott had an interest in stormwater management and drainage, and in particular, how we can better manage stormwater to reduce environmental impact due to poor water quality and large damaging flows. 
Scott chose the Mt Helen campus of FedUni to investigate how stormwater water could be better managed. He set up an experimental program to measure the water quality over a range of small, medium and large rainfall events, to look at sediment (turbidity), salinity and nutrients being washed from the Mt Helen campus into some downstream receiving waterways such as Canadian Creek.
Scott found there were a number of improvement which could be made to the stormwater system and made a number of recommendations to do this. A highlight of Scott’s work was his ability to leverage from FedUni’s relationship with Central Highlands Water to get some of his water quality analysis completed. Thanks to CHW for this support.

Scott received a High Distinction for his thesis on the basis of his high quality literature review, strong methodological approach, a useful set of results and insightful discussion and conclusions.
