Biography

Professor Madhu Chetty has over 35 years of tertiary teaching experience in Australia and India and is currently the Professor of Information Technology within the Institute of Innovation, Science and Sustainability (IISS). Professor Chetty, with BE, MTech and PhD in Electrical Engineering from India, is internationally recognised for his high-quality research in bioinformatics and computational biology, which involves the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to health and life sciences. His ResearchGate (RG) index, greater than 31, puts him in top 10% of ResearchGate members worldwide. With over 160 scientific publications since 2000, Professor Chetty has a sustained prolific publication record. More than 90% of his journal publications are Q1 ranked and 75% of his Q1 publications are in the top 10% ranked journal. He has received industry and Cat-1 funding to support his research. He is currently serving as the Director of AI and ML Stream in Health within Health Innovation and Transformation Centre (HITC).

Madhu has supervised 19 PhD students to completion and currently, he is Principal Supervisor for 6 PhD students. In recognition of his high-quality outcomes for HDR students and strong, student-centred research supervision practices, Federation University conferred the 2021 Overall Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Supervision. In 2019, Amity University, the leading private sector University in India, recognised my contributions and conferred a “Citation and Lifetime Professorship”. His leadership extends across the discipline, industry, and community. For his achievements in community engagement and commitment to university, and for raising the profile of the university on international stage, Professor Chetty was conferred with the 2021 Vice Chancellor's Certificate of Commendation for Excellence in Community Engagement and Impact. He has served/serving Deputy Head of School, member of the School Leadership Team and HDR Coordinator.

Professor Chetty has served in key leadership roles in organising several international conferences. He served as General Chair of the 18th IEEE International Conference on Computational Intelligence in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and also the General Chair for the 4th IAPR international conference on Pattern Recognition in Bioinformatics. As Vice Chair of the IEEE Victorian/Tasmanian Section (2020-2021), he has coordinated activities of 14 Technical Societies, Student Chapters of 7 Universities, and 4 Community groups. He is currently on the editorial board of PLOS ONE and Elsevier’s Biosystems journal. He has also served as Guest Editors on several Special Issues on Artificial Intelligence applications to Bioinformatics.
