Biography

Dr Madhu Chetty is Professor in Information Technology within the Institute of Innovation, Science and Sustainability (IISS), and currently, also serving as the Director of AI and ML Stream within Health Innovation and Transformation Centre (HITC). He has over 35 years of tertiary teaching, research, and leadership experience within Australia and overseas having served as an academic at University of Melbourne, Monash University and National Institute of Technology, India. His notable visiting appointments are at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, University of Warwick, UK, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi and Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands. Amity University, India also conferred on him a “Citation and Lifetime Professorship”. Professor Chetty has supervised over 22 PhD students to completion and currently supervising 5 PhD students. He received 2021 Overall Award for Excellence in Graduate Research Supervision, and his PhD student has received the 2024 Dean’s award for excellence in PhD thesis. For community engagement and raising the profile of the university on international stage, Professor Chetty was conferred with the 2021 Vice Chancellor's Certificate of Commendation for Excellence in Community Engagement and Impact. He has served as Deputy Head of School, member of the School Leadership Team, HDR Coordinator, General Chair of IEEE International Conference and Vice Chair of the IEEE Victorian/Tasmanian Section. He is currently on the editorial board of two journals and editor of upcoming book for Springer Nature. He is internationally recognised for his research involving application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), especially to health and life sciences. Professor Chetty has a sustained publication record with large number of publications in Q1 and T1 (Top Ten percentile ranking) journals. He has been successful in receiving industry and Cat-1 funding.
