Biography

Emma came to Federation University in 2023 after a long career in education. She has extensive experience teaching and leading in primary and secondary schools in Melbourne.

In schools, Emma is a leading industry expert. She pioneered research-based practices in her various leading roles including acting as an Assistant Principal, Department of Education advisor, Head of Teaching and Learning, School Improvement Team advisor, Literacy Coach and Learning Specialist. Emma has provided training for teachers across multiple primary schools and mentored and coached many teachers. She has written school-based teaching and learning policies for diverse communities and implemented various school-wide programs, particularly in literacy and curriculum improvement. Emma has a passion for mentoring teachers, particularly pre-service and early career teachers. She continues to draw on this passion at Federation University where she teaches and mentors pre-service teachers as a professional experience lecturer.

Areas of expertise

Emma has industry expertise in many aspects of education including policy, curriculum development and Department initiatives. She is a dedicated presenter and has researched and presented workshops to support teachers in their professional development. Emma has expertise in mentoring and is a qualified literacy coach, which she has developed over the span of her career. She has also mentored graduate teachers in VIT accreditation and supported them in their early career.
