Literacy/numeracy requirements

Initial teacher education programs

(Program codes: TY5 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary), TZ5 Bachelor of Education (Primary), TN5 Bachelor of Secondary Education and TN5.HPE Bachelor of Secondary Education (Health and Physical Education Teaching))

Where a non-year 12 applicant does not have:

  • A study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL (or 30 in EAL)
  • Satisfactory completion of:
  1. Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics, or
  2. Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics

the applicant will be required to successfully complete an internal literacy and/or numeracy test as an extra requirement for entry.

Early childhood

(Program code: TK5 Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education))

Where a non-year 12 applicant does not have:

  • A study score of at least 20 in any English
  • Satisfactory completion of:
  1. Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics, or
  2. Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics

the applicant will be required to successfully complete an internal literacy and/or numeracy test as an extra requirement for entry.

Pathway programs

(Program Codes: TC5 Bachelor of Education Studies, SO5 Bachelor of Sport, Physical and Outdoor Education and OE5 Bachelor of Outdoor and Environmental Education)

Where a non-year 12 applicant does not have:

 EnglishMathematics
TC5 Bachelor of Education Studies A study score of at least 20 in any English
  1. Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of any Mathematics, or
  2. Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics
SO5 Bachelor of Sport, Physical and Outdoor Education A study score of at least 20 in any English
  1. Units 1 and 2: Satisfactory completion in two units (any study combination) of Maths: General Mathematics, Maths: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics, or
  2. Units 3 and 4: any Mathematics
OE5 Bachelor of Outdoor and Environmental Education A study score of at least 20 in any English        n/a

the applicant will be required to successfully complete an internal literacy and/or numeracy test as an extra requirement for entry.

To register for the literacy and/or numeracy test, please complete the Literacy and numeracy test registration form.  Literacy and Numeracy Registration (office.com)

Once the registration form has been completed, we will be in touch within 2 business days to provide you the details to complete the online test. You will have until Sunday 13th July 2025 to complete the tests for the semester 2 2025 intake.
