Bachelor of Education Studies Co-op
Interested in transitioning to a co-operative degree?
In 2025, we're rolling out the Bachelor of Education Studies Co-op with paid placements!
You might be eligible to transfer to this new version of the degree, giving you the chance to gain real-world experience and earn money while you study.
If you switch to the co-op degree, the course structure will change a bit. Instead of 40 hours of unpaid work experience, you'll do a set amount of paid placement in settings like schools, childcare, tutoring programs, holiday programs, or even libraries. Keep in mind that past work experience doesn’t count, and you'll work on specific goals and share progress through a report. Your paid placement is equivalent to four units. You'll also complete a unit called "Professional Identity: Preparing for Work".
- Am I eligible?
You're eligible to transition if you've completed nine or fewer units in the current Bachelor of Education Studies.
- How do I make the swap?
If you're keen, complete this form by Friday 13 December.
- What if I want to stay in the current version my course?
It’s your choice. Sticking with the current Bachelor of Education Studies means you’ll still complete a valuable three-year degree with a pathway to careers in education or eligibility for a Master of Teaching. But, we would still like to know if you do not want to transition. Please complete this form by Friday 13 December.
- Will I have to find my own placement?
No, the University’s Co-operative team will find a placement opportunity for you.
- What if I already work in an education-related organisation?
Previous work experience won’t count. During your paid placement, you’ll work on specific goals and share your progress in a report.
- I have already applied to transfer to a teacher education course
- I haven’t applied to transfer to a teacher education course but I would like to.
Refer to the criteria below, and if you’re confident you’ll meet them, apply here by 13 December 2024.- Pass 8 units with a credit average (excluding any placement units).
- Satisfactory completion of VCE Maths and English OR achieve the required score in an invigilated (supervised) literacy and/or numeracy test. We'll check your VCE results and let you know if you need to complete the test.
- Satisfactory completion of either the CASPer (Computer-Based Assessment for Sampling Personal Characteristics) or NARTE (Non-Academic Requirements for Teacher Entry) online questionnaire within the last 12 months.
If you’ve already applied to transfer into one of these teacher education programs, that's great news. If you're still waiting on the outcome, we recommend that you go ahead and re-enrol in your current course for 2025. We will be in touch via email to let you know the outcome of your application soon. If you require assistance with your enrolment, please get in touch with us through our Enquiry and Application Portal anytime.
If the transfer doesn’t go through, you can still switch to the new co-op version later on, just let us know via the Online Enquiry Portal.
