University researchers receive Discovery Project funding
Posted: Wednesday 2 November 2016
Senior researchers from Federation University Australia will play a major role in a new Discovery Project funded by the Australian Research Council.
The University’s Associate Professor Jacqueline Wilson and Professor Keir Reeves have both been named as Chief Investigators on a Discovery Project led by Monash University.
The project, ‘Rights in records by design’, aims to design and develop a Lifelong Living Archive for children who experience out-of-home care.
Children cared for out-of-home need quality record-keeping systems to develop and nurture their sense of identity and connectedness. Sound record-keeping will account for childrens’ care experiences throughout their lives and help to detect and report instances of child neglect and abuse.
This research is expected to support children experiencing family dislocation through efficient, effective, and responsive recordkeeping systems to ensure the highest standards and continuity of care.
“The University congratulates Jacqueline Wilson and Keir Reeves for their crucial involvement in this important research project,” Professor Leigh Sullivan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), said.
“There is a vital need now for a Lifelong Living Archive for children in care.”
The Monash investigators in the project are Dr Joanne Evans; Professor Susan McKemmish; Associate Professor Philip Mendes; and Dr Jane Bone.
Funding of $542,500 will be awarded over three years by the Australian Research Council.
