New scholarship announced by sport injury research centre
Posted: Tuesday 25 October 2016
The Australian Collaboration for Research into Injury in Sport and its Prevention, based at Federation University Australia, has announced a new domestic PhD scholarship is available in injury epidemiology.
The scholarship is associated with an Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage Project that aims to build on a recently developed incident reporting and learning system for use by outdoor education, recreation and adventure
“Preventing injuries requires in-depth understanding of the factors that contribute to their occurrence,” Professor Caroline Finch, Director of the Australian Collaboration for Research into Injury in Sport (ACRISP), said.
“Our project is a collaboration between researchers at the University of the Sunshine Coast and FedUni
“The project has strong industry engagement and is being undertaken in collaboration with a wide range of outdoor activity providers across Australia.”
The project is currently entering its second phase, in which the focus is on identifying, developing and implementing preventive solutions to reduce injury risk in led outdoor activities.
“An opportunity exists for a highly motivated PhD scholar to join the project team at Federation University Australia,” Professor Finch said.
“The PhD scholar will contribute to the development of new insights into how injury surveillance system data can best be used to inform the development of injury prevention measures.”
The research could be approached from one or more angles including (but not restricted to) that of the surveillance system design itself, the perspectives of users of the surveillance system or the challenges in implementing such a system within the led outdoor and recreation settings.
