FedUni supports innovation in action

Posted: Friday 21 October 2016

Federation University Australia is pleased to congratulate Professor Michael Aitken on winning the prestigious Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation this week.

Professor Aitken is a member of the Capital Markets Cooperative Research Centre (CMCRC). The Prize for Innovation acknowledges his information technology and market know-how in making improvements within emerging health markets.

“There are billions of dollars of potential savings in health expenditure in Australia alone that can go hand in glove with significant improvements in consumers’ health,” Professor Aitken said.

Federation University Australia is pleased to recognise Professor Aitken in its role as a research partner of CMCRC, which currently has two significant projects underway through its research at our Centre for Informatics and Applied Optimisation (CIAO).

These two projects involve a PhD student, Daniel Morales Silva and Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr Musa Mammadov.

Both of them are working on significant projects with their industry partners, and CIAO researchers Dr Julien Ugon and Dr Guillermo Pineda-Villavicencio.

The aim is to optimise health markets through identifying potential savings on health expenditure, improvements in efficiency in service delivery and in patient outcomes.

The University is excited to contribute to the research within the CMCRC by developing data analytics solutions to ensure the most effective decisions are made within the insurance and rehabilitation sectors.
