Research impacts and industry experience
My research outcomes have attracted considerable attention and collaboration from a number of scholars and distinguished organizations around the world, including Aalborg University, The University of Sydney, Universidad Andres Bello, Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR), China Southern Power Grid, Zhuhai Wanlida Electrical Automation Co., Ltd, etc. The main research focuses are as follows.
- Sustainable Energy Systems & Power Electronics: Wind turbine systems, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, grid integration of renewable energy sources
- Microgrids & Smart Grid Technologies: Advanced control techniques such as droop methods and model predictive control (MPC) for microgrids in both islanded- and grid-connected modes, power quality improvement, grid stability analysis, optimal power flow control
- Electric Drives & Electric Vehicle Technologies: Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), energy management system (EMS) in EVs, permanent magnetic synchronisation machines (PMSM), DC/AC Machines, double-fed induction machines (DFIM), reluctance machines, advanced electric drive techniques (DTC, DPC, etc.)
Short biography
Jiefeng (Jerry) Hu received his PhD from University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. He was involved in the research of minigrids in Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Newcastle, Australia. Prior to joining Federation University Australia as an Associate Professor and the Program Coordinator of Electrical Engineering, he was an Assistant Professor at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, leading an international team to develop advanced renewable energy technologies for smart cities.
Dr. Hu has obtained solid experience and track records in the field of power converters control and energy conversion systems. Since 2011, he has led or participated in several research and industry projects such as Australian Research Council (ARC) electric vehicle project, CSIRO minigrid project, Hong Kong Research Grants Council renewable energy grid integration projects, and Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission dynamic wireless power transfer project. He is also active in global academic services. He served as committee member and session chair in several international conferences. He is now an IEEE senior member, and he serves as Editors for several prestigious journals. So far, he has published more than 100 technical papers, mainly in well-known journals with high impact factors such as IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, IEEE Transactions on Smart Grid, and IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. His research interests include power electronics, renewable power generation, and smart microgrids.
