Support for Care Experienced Students

Federation University is home to an increasing number of students with care experience. We welcome you, we support you and we want you to succeed. We know that care experienced students are underrepresented in TAFE and higher education. We want to help change this. We believe that all of us are missing out on the talent and potential that care experienced students have to offer.

When we are talking about students with care experience, we mean people who have spent all or part of their childhoods in the care of people who are not their immediate family. This may include with foster carers, with extended family in kinship care or in residential care. There are many terms people use to describe themselves. Whichever term you identify with, we are here to support you.

Care experienced students

Federation University is dedicated to help break down some of the barriers care experienced students face. Our Equity and Inclusion Officer can provide individual support on request. This can include support with

  • enrolment
  • applying for scholarships
  • connecting with our academic preparation and support programs
  • peer mentoring programs
  • referrals to other internal and external support services.
