Statement from Federation University Australia on the Federal Government's recent announcement of a new Migration Strategy.

"Federation University Australia strongly supports the announcement from the Hon Clare O'Neil MP regarding the Federal Government’s new Migration Strategy.

"Our university has advocated for changes that protect students from being exploited by bad actors and welcomes any initiatives which will improve the experience for students who genuinely wish to study in Australia.

"The announced changes will support our aim of attracting passionate international students to our university to help address the significant skills shortages in our regional and peri-urban communities.

"Federation was disproportionately impacted by a sharp increase in visa refusals from India by the Department of Home Affiars (DHA) earlier this year which has now been addressed.

"We are confident that following ongoing consultation with the DHA that we will return to a Tier 2 rating for 2024."
