Federation TAFE Information Technology teacher, Dr Adam Bignold has been named Teacher/Trainer of the Year and People’s Choice winner at the 70^th Victorian Training Awards (VTAs).

The VTAs celebrate the outstanding achievement of apprentices, trainees, students, teachers, employers, training providers, and industry, with the winners announced at a gala event at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre on Friday 30 August.

Adam was one of 15 winners amongst 40 finalists and was congratulated on his win by Minister for Training and Skills and Higher Education Gayle Tierney. Adam’s extensive achievements were further recognised by his peers as he took home the People’s Choice Award.

Nominated for revamping Federation’s Certificate IV in Cyber Security to better meet the needs of neurodiverse and mature age students, Adam’s innovative and flexible approach to teaching has increased student retention, engagement, and doubled the number of female students studying cybersecurity at Federation TAFE.

Adam will now represent Victoria at the Australian Training Awards event to be held in Canberra in early December where the very best in vocational education and training from across the country will be showcased.

As Victorian Teacher/Trainer of the Year Adam receives $5,000 in prize money and a Victorian Training Award trophy, as well as a laptop valued at more than $2,000 for being named People’s Choice Award winner.
