Placement
Placement means working in a clinical setting. It gives you the chance to apply your knowledge in real situations – great preparation for being in the workforce. You must complete at least 160 hours with Ambulance Victoria (about 8 shifts per semester).
You’ll use the InPlace platform to upload essential documents, submit your placement preferences and find out where you’ve been placed. Log in with your student ID and password.
Find out more about organising your placement via InPlace.
Before you go on placement, you must:
- pass a medical and physical capacity test (which costs about $700 – find all the details in your offer letter)
- be vaccinated against Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Influenza, Pertussis and COVID 19 (minimum 3 doses)
- pass a mask fit test
- get a Police Check
- get a Working with Children Check.
You’ll need to upload evidence of these mandatory requirements to InPlace. Some of the documents can take 6–12 weeks to receive, so best start early.
Download the Ambulance Victoria Clinical Practice Guidelines app to access the latest guidelines.
Placement can be physically and emotionally challenging, so we’ll share your contact details with Ambulance Victoria peer support. Remember that you can also access the free Federation counselling service.
We've got a team of experts supporting your placement. If you need help, contact us on Health.Placements@federation.edu.au.
Teaching staff
How do you know you'll be learning the latest evidence-based practices? Because your teachers work in industry. Some are trained ALS and MICA paramedics – which means their knowledge is up to date.
