How to apply
Federation University Australia has exchange agreements with a number of overseas universities. These agreements allow students to study at the exchange institution for one or sometimes two semesters.
The first step is to decide where you want to go! Full list of Exchange Partners
It's a good idea to have a few partners in mind, just in case you don't get your first preference. You will need to have a look at the partner institution to see if the courses provided will match up with your Federation University courses. If you are having any issues with finding courses, please feel free to contact us
Next, have a chat with your Program Coordinator to discuss whether exchange is an option within your program.
Once you've got all your information together, complete the Application for Overseas Exchange Program (Outgoing) (pdf, 1231KB) and submit it to the Exchange and Study Abroad team
For Semester 1 applications, preference will be given to applications received by the 31 August in the year prior to the Semester commencement.
For Semester 2 applications, preference will be given to applications received by the 15 of March that year.

Federation University students who wish to study at an institution not covered by our exchange agreements are able to do so.
The first step is to speak to your Program Coordinator about whether Study Abroad will be possible within your program structure.
The next step is to contact the Study Abroad team and discuss where you would like to go. The Study Abroad team can assist you with preparing your documentation and applying to the overseas institution
- Students will need to take leave from studies from Federation University.
- Students will be required to pay the tuition fees directly to the overseas institution.
- Students will be required to apply for credit at Federation University upon their return.
