Borrowing from our physical collections

Find out what your loan limits are, how to borrow and return items and what happens if something is overdue.

Need a book, laptop, equipment or other resources? If you're a Federation student or staff member, your Federation ID card is your all-access pass to the Library. Use it to borrow, renew and request items from our collections. If you're not at Federation, you have to join the Library if you want to borrow items.

Borrowing info

Found something you need but it's on loan or at another campus? Place a hold and we'll get it to you.

  1. Find the item in Library search and select the title.
  2. Under the 'Links' heading, select 'See Holdings'.
  3. Select the 'Request' button at the top of the page.
  4. Log in with your Federation username and password.
  5. Choose your campus from the 'Pickup Location' list, or select 'Postal Delivery' if you'd like it mailed (and include your address in the notes).
  6. Select 'Submit'.

We'll email you when the item is ready to collect.

If we don't have what you're looking for in our collections, we might be able to source it from another library.

Request a journal article or book chapter from another campus

If you need a copy of a journal article or a book chapter that’s only available in print at another Federation University campus, we can scan it and send it straight to your inbox. To stay within Australian copyright guidelines, each request is limited to one journal article from a single issue, or one chapter or up to 10% of a book.

If you’re an undergraduate or online student, you can request a scanned copy.

If you're a postgraduate student, you can request print material from another campus through the resource sharing option in your MyLibrary account.

Can't remember what you borrowed, or when it's due? Log into your My Library account to see your current loans or renew them. You can also activate your reading history to keep track of the items you borrow.

You can drop your items off at any campus library. Our return chutes are open 24/7, so you can return things any time of day. If you can't get to campus, you can post your items back (at your own expense).

If an item is more than six weeks overdue, or lost or damaged, you'll be invoiced for the replacement cost (and a processing fee). Email us if you need to report a lost or damaged item.

If the item was already damaged before you borrowed it, or it's been stolen, you can fill out a statutory declaration to explain the situation, and we'll take it from there.

Need to borrow a laptop?

You can borrow a laptop for up to three days. To get started, visit the Library and speak with a librarian. You’ll need to read the laptop agreement terms and conditions (PDF 230 KB) and complete a laptop agreement form. Log in before you leave so we can make sure the device will work for you at home. If no one has reserved the laptop, your loan will automatically renew for another three days.
