Biography

Dr Jenny Mee’s over 30 years of nursing experience encompassed many roles in clinical nursing, health promotion, teaching, research, management, and directing her own home care business. In 2012, she joined the University of Ballarat, the predecessor entity to Federation University as Lecturer, Nursing. In this role, she has led significant change in home care simulation, clinical hospital simulation learning and curriculum on campus and in the areas of online and authentic reality learning. In 2015, Jenny co-led a group of Nursing and Midwifery students on a Commonwealth Student Mobility Grant ($ 30,000) study tour of Timor Leste, focusing on women’s health and social disparities of health in a developing country.

In 2021, Jenny gained her PhD by examining Australian home care quality and the challenges that business managers and home care owners face during times of political and societal change. She also holds a Master of Applied Science (Research) from QUT in feminist research, examining women's lived experiences of studying nursing at university. In addition to her leadership roles as the international student coordinator in nursing and NTEU union delegate, she has postgraduate qualifications in teaching and learning, and in Higher Education Leadership. Dr Mee has several publications, received a National Excellence in Education Leadership scholarship, is a Golden Key Honour Society Member and leads innovative, authentic teaching strategies and research at Federation University in simulation, virtual reality and online.

Supervision

2025 current project -associate supervisor, Masters coursework research project Working Title- How do manual handling practices affect disability support workers in Victoria, Australia, and how do these practices align with their experiences and perceived needs?

2015 To achieve a good standard of care in pressure sore prevention in an intensive care unit through an educational  program. (Master's coursework- Hong Kong Partnership) completed

2015 Enhancement of care guidelines for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who need acute non-invasive ventilation. (Master coursework- Hong Kong Partnership) completed

2014 Developing an education program to improve medication management in an old aged care setting. (Master's coursework- Hong Kong Partnership) completed

2014 Improve the post-op care and discharge preparation for mastectomy patients. (Master's coursework- Hong Kong Partnership) completed

Grants and awards

  • 2015 $11,500 Australian Government Asia Bound Mobility Grants. Collaborated with Ms Rosie King to apply for funding to take 5 Faculty of Health post graduate midwifery students on a study tour to Timor Leste. The study tour explored the social disparities of health for the population in Timor as developing, post war conflict country. The study tour had a particular focus on women's health, child and maternal health and examining capacity building. Students visited NGOs, Hospitals, Clinics and public health programs.
