Biography

Hayley is working in the Institute of Health and Wellbeing. Hayley joined Federation University as a PhD candidate in 2019 and as a lecturer in Occupational Therapy in 2022. Prior to this, Hayley worked as a senior occupational therapist in adult public hospital inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation settings for the past 10 years. Hayley is also a trained occupational therapy driver assessor previously working in private practice.

Areas of expertise

Hayley is undertaking her PhD candidature focusing on a research project titled ‘development and testing of a driving clinical decision pathway for non-driver trained occupational therapists to guide return to driving practice for adults following a change in health status’. Her research endeavours encompass an in-depth exploration of existing practices among non-driver trained occupational therapists, involving a descriptive study and an investigation into the effectiveness of performance-based assessment tools in predicting driving outcomes. The findings from this research have been instrumental in the development and validation of a driving clinical decision pathway and associated resources which have been piloted in clinical practice. These outcomes are poised to offer valuable support to occupational therapists, empowering them to guide clients safely back into driving or explore alternative community mobility options.

Hayley is passionate about delivering evidence-based interventions that enhance the attainment of occupational goals for clients. She is deeply dedicated to upholding high-quality standards in adult rehabilitation practices, which is demonstrated through her publications and conference presentations.
