Rebecca Baumann's practice spans across a range of media including sculpture, installation and performance, using abstraction, colour, repletion and other formal qualities to explore philosophical concerns relating to the nature of emotion, perception, the self and consciousness. From kinetic assemblages to still imagery, Baumann's works create a space to consider what it means to be human.

The sublime, meditative pulse of Automated Monochrome (White on White), 2012 is part of a series of 'automated paintings', informed by Bauman's ongoing interest in sociology and psychology, colour theory and art history. Referencing the monochrome, the work also considers different cultural readings of white, which range from purity, neutrality, death and mourning.
