Biography

Eva comes with lived experience working over 30 years in the human service field.

Eva is a social worker working in the School of Social Work, Community and Human Services. Eva Joined federation University Australia in 2022.

Eva currently works at Uniting Victoria Tasmania as the Reconciliation Lead developing cultural safety processes through out the organisation. Eva is also a member of the UIACC leadership group Australia wide advocating for change in areas of Homelessness, Family violence, Closing the gap and the Uluru statement of the Heart and aged care.

Before joining Federation University, Eva has work across many areas of the human service sectors in many leadership roles.

A few of these roles have been:

  • Senior Practice Reviewer Commission for Children and Young People – working on reports for minister on child death enquiries.
  • CEO of Women’s Health in the Southeast – in which Eva was involved in all aspects of running the organisation.
  • Director for ALSO foundation in which Eva overlooked the whole running of the organisation and development of safe practices for the GLBTI communities.
  • Eva was on the Executive Family Violence committee which look at developing programs that could assist in safely assisting consumers to receive help.
  • Eva contributed on Aboriginal family violence policy for the department of human services and worked towards better outcomes for communities.
  • Eva has been the Executive manager on three Primary Care Partnership which brought together several organisations to look at creating programs for consumers.
  • As the Aboriginal Family Decision Making Convenor/Unit Manager department of human services. Eva worked with First Nations people and child protection looking at outcomes for the children.
  • As a keynote Speaker- Domestic Violence, Indigenous Conference Brisbane Eva discussed the importance of self determination when seeking services and the complexities involved in the First Nations culture.
  • Eva as the keynote Speaker for the Safe at Home and the person who created the program Eva discussed the issues involving children and transience of parents who are self-medicating.
  • As the keynote speaker Eva created a forum in a regional area for professionals to become aware of the issues facing the GLBTI+ communities.
  • Eva created a training for professionals working with culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and family violence including the difference between culture and religion.

Areas of expertise

Reconciliation for First Nations people Eva has been involved in the development of the RAPS for Uniting Victoria Tasmania for several years and as the lead has been successful in creating a culturally safe environment for all First Nations People.

Family violence – Eva has spent many years working in executive roles on issues pertaining the family violence sector within the First Nations sector, CALD communities and general sector. Including being a keynote speaker at conferences on this subject. Eva will verse in the MARRAM framework and has completed all training in this area.

GLBTI+ communities, Eva has worked since the 80s on developing programs and training within community. The work commenced at the AIDS council when AIDS was new and educating on this issue was incredibly important. Eva was the chairperson for the GLBTI counselling service and responsible for training. Eva late became a director at the ALSO foundation.

Eva is well versed in NDIS and its processes and has completed all training.

  • First Nations people and family violence including closing the gap, and the voice to parliament.
  • Family violence for First Nations people
  • Lost first nations people who have not been able to connect with their mob due to past polices of assimilation.
  • GLBTI+ and discrimination within the workplace
  • Age care and the barriers facing First Nations people including the GLBTI communities.
  • Systemic abuse which is prevalent within our organsiations and policy’s
