Tim Shaw has made an outstanding contribution to the lives of young people, education and the Wimmera community. He first graduated from the University of Ballarat with an Advanced Diploma of Business Management in 2007, before completing a Graduate Certificate in Management, Certificate IV in Disability and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.

In 2009 Tim was appointed Executive Officer at the Wimmera Southern Mallee Local Learning and Employment Network, a not-for-profit committed to improving the educational outcomes and lives of the region’s young people.

There Tim has implemented a range of innovative partnerships, projects and programs including the MATES mentoring program, and the Let’s Read partnership, which has provided more than 10,000 resource bags to young families across the Wimmera to encourage daily reading to children from birth.

To further support children’s literacy, the Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN introduced the Reading Buddies program to schools, and implemented the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy Intervention program for Indigenous children at the most disadvantaged primary school in the region. They have developed Community Action Networks (CANs) to identify challenges faced by young people and schools, and to provide enhanced support to them; coordinated the Wimmera Southern Mallee VET cluster for schools spread across more than 40,000 km; and the Wimmera Southwest Virtual School, which enables students to have virtual access to a broad range of VCE subjects. Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN works with local employers to strengthen school-industry relationships and create work placement opportunities.

Under Tim’s leadership, Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN has won numerous awards including Community Group of the Year; Connecting Communities Award; Overall Leading Volunteer Team Award and been finalist in the Victorian Early Years Awards, the Volunteering Victoria State Awards and the Volunteer Recognition Awards.

Tim has served on numerous boards and committees and made significant contributions to local sporting clubs.
