FLOYD, Laurie

I commenced work with the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission in January 1974 as a graduate Engineer. After 3 years on an Engineering rotation program in several different departments I settled in the irrigation industry in the Goulburn Valley as a Project Engineer in Operations and Maintenance and Capital Works with a stint as Deputy District Engineer at the Shepparton Office.

In 1983 I moved to Melbourne with the then Rural Water Corporation (Ex SR&WSC) as an Engineering Advisor for on Farm Water Supplies before returning to the role of Deputy District Engineer in the Pyramid Hill – Boort irrigation area in 1986. In the mid 1980’s the RWC was moving toward regionalising operations and I relocated to Horsham in 1987 to take on the role of Acting District Engineer in the newly formed Wimmera-Mallee Water. In 1993 I moved into a Project Engineer role with the Bega Valley Shire Council for 3 years until returning to Horsham as a Construction Manager with Grampians Water working on the Lake Fyans – Stawell water supply pipeline replacement Contract.

In 1998 I returned to Tatura as a Construction Project Manager with Goulburn-Murray Water managing major irrigation surface drainage projects in northern Victoria. In 2011 I moved into the role of Project Manager within the Water Storages responsible to O&M & Capital works on the major water storage dams operated by Goulburn-Murray Water in northern Victoria. I retired in January 2013 after 39 years, 36 of which were in the Victorian rural water industry.
