About Sam Henson

Sam HensonFollowing Sam's 27+ years of tenure with our University, the Federation University Australia Foundation announced that they would provide a new scholarship in the name of retiring of Head of Campus for Ballarat, Associate Professor Sam Henson, in recognition of his 27 years at our University. Staff and community members were asked to contribute to this scholarship fund.

Associate Professor Sam Henson has always been a passionate advocate for higher education in Ballarat and a leading ambassador for our university, He joined the University of Ballarat as a staff member in 1996, completed his PhD in 2009 which explored high-growth small firms in regions, and advanced a Conceptual Framework for SME growth as well as a Typology of Regional SME Fit.

His work to help design and develop our internationalisation strategy, remains a vital part of Federation University Australia’s vision – and locally, through his strong advocacy across the Ballarat and Buninyong communities.

In 2014, he took on the role of Head of Campus and made it a priority to forge strong relationships with local industries, government entities, and community leaders.  Sam retired in 2023.
