Pre-visa screening

Simplified Student Visa Framework

The following information is provided to international students to understand the pre-visa screening assessment conducted by International Admissions, Federation University Australia.

Under the Department of Home Affairs' Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF), education providers are required to ensure that all prospective international students are genuine students who can meet genuine temporary entrant requirements and have the financial capacity to support their study in Australia.

The University requires each international applicant to submit a detailed personal statement of study purpose with their application.

International applicants must provide documentary evidence of financial capacity. Students must have genuine access to either:

• sufficient funds to cover themselves and any accompanying family members for their first 12 months in Australia; OR
• sufficient ongoing income to cover these costs.

You will need to demonstrate that you have sufficient funds or income to cover both tuition fees and living costs

As per our SSVF Assessment Requirements, we may require students to provide further documentation and/or speak with a FedUni representative for a quick interview.

If the university forms the opinion that you did not pass the pre-visa screening, it may refuse to assess your application, withdraw an offer of a place or cancel your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE).

We reserve the right to apply the pre-visa assessment process for all deferred applications, particularly if there has been a change in the student's circumstances.

Please note: to allow enough time to process your student visa, offshore applicants must submit the required SSVF documents and forms at least 4 weeks prior to the orientation date.

Visa refusals

FedUni does not generally accept applications from students who have been refused a student visa (through FedUni or any other Australian institution) within the last two years.

If you receive your FedUni CoE but are refused a visa, please do not re-apply for your visa straight away - please forward your visa refusal notice to Admissions staff immediately. Ballarat, Berwick and Gippsland applicants should email internationaladmissions@federation.edu.au, and Partner Provider applicants should contact the Partner they applied to

FedUni will be notified of the visa refusal through PRISMS, and will cancel your CoE. Under most circumstances, FedUni will not re-issue a CoE to a student who has been refused a visa. However, if you believe there are extenuating circumstances in your case, and you would like to re-apply for a later intake, please send us an email with a detailed explanation and supporting documentation, and the University will decide whether to issue a new CoE.
