Elissa is a nursing lecturer at Federation University Australia with a dual clinical background in physiotherapy and nursing. She completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy in 2004 at La Trobe University (Bundoora) and worked in a variety of clinical environments in the Gippsland region. Elissa pursued further qualifications in 2016, including a Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Nursing (Honours), Graduate Certificate in Tertiary Education and Online Learning, and a PhD in 2024, examining falls risk awareness among inpatients in regional Victoria.
She is currently an Academic Integrity Officer within the Institute of Health and Wellbeing. Her research focuses on nursing education, patient safety, and digital health, with key interests in authentic assessment, academic integrity in the era of generative AI, and the integration of digital tools such as electronic medical records and virtual reality into curricula. She is interested in medication safety, falls prevention, curriculum development and digital health literacy in undergraduate nursing students.
Elissa has presented nationally and internationally, published in peer-reviewed journals, and has been involved in multi-disciplinary projects including nursing, allied health, and community collaborators. Passionate about building research capability, she mentors undergraduate and higher degree research students to develop skills, confidence and professional readiness.
