Pathways

Pathways can help you transition through your adult study life. Whether you have an existing qualification that you want to consider credit options for, or you are looking for a pathway into further study through an alternative entry method, we have options available to help you get there.

We consider every request for credit on a case-by-case basis and therefore credits cannot be guaranteed until your formal application is processed. The information within these pages should help give you an indication of the possible credits which may be available to you.

We invite you to contact us to further discuss your pathway options by phoning 1800 333 864 or emailing info@federation.edu.au

The below chart should help you identify possibly pathways between the various levels of study available at FedUni. Select from the study areas above to view credit charts, or select 'alternative entry' to view options to help gain entry into a particular level of study.

At the first level we have Federation College and Secondary School. In Federation College at FAST, which has a duration of 6 months and VCAL, which has a variable duration, both are pathways into some of our Bachelor's Degrees. Also in Federation College are our English Language and Pathways Programs, both with variable durations. These programs lead into TAFE/VET programs and may also provide pathways directly into our Bachelor's Degrees. Secondary school and VCE are at the same level to our Federation College, offering pathways into TAFE/VET and Bachelor's Degrees. At the second level we have TAFE/VET. In TAFE/VET we have study at a level of Certificate I & 2, Certificate III & IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma. All of these programs have variable durations and credit is available for previous TAFE/VET studies. The Certificate I & II programs lead into our Certificate III & IV programs. Our Certificate III & IV programs, as well as the Diploma and Advanced Diploma programs offer pathways into our Bachelor's Degrees. Pathways are also available from Certificate III & IV into Diploma and from Diploma into Advance Diploma. At the third level we have Bachelor's Degrees and undergraduate study. A Bachelor's Degree varies in study duration but can usually be completed with 3 to 4 years of full time study. Study duration may be reduced by obtaining credit from previous TAFE/VET studies. VTAC entry prerequisites may apply. At the fourth level we have postgraduate study. Bachelor's Degrees lead into a range of postgraduate study options, such as a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma, Masters by Coursework or Honours. Honours programs can lead into Masters by Research, Doctor of Philosophy and Professional Doctorates. Graduate Certificates lead into Graduate Diploma, and from there can lead into Masters by Coursework. Masters by Coursework can lead into a Professional Doctorate, or into a Masters by Research and from there into a Doctor of Philosophy.
