Warp and Woof by Edith Lyttleton is a naturalistic play in three acts, written in 1904. Set in a dressmaker’s London salon and surrounds, the play stages the social concerns and romantic intrigues of the glittering classes, set against the lives of the young women whose labour makes their nightlife possible. Lyttleton’s cool analysis exposes the interrelationship between the classes and reveals a series of double standards that don’t just exist in nineteenth century history…
