Don't Stare so Romantically: paintings by Cheri O'Donnell
Wed 27 Mar - Thu 18 Apr 2013
Cheri O’Donnell began painting landscape in response to disasters such as flood and bush-fires near her East Gippsland home.
In her Monash Masters research at Gippsland Centre for Art and Design she moved on to documenting the effects of human intrusions in the Victorian Alpine Country. Her work explores the impact of resorts on the sublime mountain environment and how we think about wilderness.
Cheri O’Donnell is a painter with a strong personal vision who asks penetrating questions about how we use our pristine wilderness environments. Her Monash Masters project explored how Australians have derived their vision of the sublime from European and American constructs and speculated about the way forward to a more Australian vision.
