ERICA TANDORI: LANDSCAPE and DESIRE
Wed 20 Jul - Thu 4 Aug 2011
In this exhibition of digital works by Melbourne artist Erica Tandori she explored her European heritage through digital images which transplant iconic edifices from the places of her ancestry into the Australian landscape.
As well as its personal significance for the artist, the exhibition had wider layers of meaning for anyone from an immigrant experience.
Says the artist, "The relationship between the Australian landscape and the immigrant is one of both joy and sorrow. The immigrant is always caught between the past, where the landscape, language and culture are lost forever, and the present, where hope for a better future unfolds in a new place, within a new cultural context."
The exhibition was the outcome of the artist's Master of Fine Arts project at Monash's Gippsland Centre for Art and Design and celebrated layered identities.
